Laminate is a multi-layer synthetic floor with a photographic wood or stone print layer bonded to a high-density fiberboard (HDF) core. A clear wear layer on top protects the surface. It's not real wood, but quality laminate at 12mm+ thickness can closely replicate the look and feel of hardwood
Standard laminate is not waterproof — the HDF core absorbs moisture and swells when exposed to water. However, Pacific Direct Industries laminate is engineered to withstand up to 300 hours of water exposure, making it significantly more resilient than standard laminate products. While it's not fully waterproof like SPC, PDI laminate offers exceptional water resistance that stands up to the demands of busy households.
AC rating (Abrasion Class) measures surface durability. AC4 is the recommended standard for most homes — it handles heavy foot traffic, pets, and kids without wearing through prematurely.

Can laminate be refinished?No. When the wear layer wears through, the planks need to be replaced. Choosing AC4 upfront extends the life significantly.
